This Pathway will provide a safe, supportive space for anyone who wants to explore the power of writing to heal and renew, to connect and empower.

Each five-week Pathway workshop with Lori Jakiela at The Yoga Deck is $200 and limited to 8 writers. Advance registration is required. Registration deadline for the Writing About and Through Trauma Pathway is April 16.

Cacao is a strong heart opening plant that taken consciously can help with inner journey work. The Chaga Mushroom & Cacao Ceremony will create a conscious intention in your life and invite the Spirit of Cacao to work with us on our inner journey & the Chaga Mushroom opens our body up to its inner healing. Sacred Cacao is known to awaken our bodies ability to be loved by honoring ones light! The Chaga mushroom has been used in eastern medicine for over 2000 years & is an amazing immune booster with many healing qualities. We will relax to the magical energy and vibrations of the Crystal Bowl and allow the Cacao & Chaga to begin working within our body and energy points. Moving into a higher vibrational meditation with we will enter into an altered state of light to truly let go. We will begin our meditation practice selecting a Sacred Animal Totem Card to connect to our higher self.

Writing/Yoga Retreat to Nurture Body, Mind and Spirit 

July 6-8 at Pitt-Greensburg

Need a summer refresh for your body, mind and spirit? There are still a few weeks left to register for Be Here Now — a creative weekend retreat July 6-8 featuring gentle yoga and meditation, creative writing workshops, food-writing and nature-writing workshops, catering by The Night Time Cook and more. 

The retreat, co-sponsored by Pitt-Greensburg’s Creative and Professional Writing Program and housed on the Pitt-Greensburg campus – rated by CBS as one of the five most beautiful college campuses in Pittsburgh – features yoga and meditation with Tonya Spritz Kapis, founder and director of The Yoga Deck/Mystic Life Coach; writing with author and Pitt-Greensburg professor Lori Jakiela; and catering by Sylvia Catello/The Night Time Cook. 

The retreat begins with registration at Pitt-Greensburg’s Village Hall between 3 and 6 p.m. on Friday, July 6 and ends at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 8. Highlights include daily meditation sessions, writing workshops and lectures, evening readings and music, wine and cheese receptions and more. 

All-inclusive cost for housing, meals, and all workshops/readings is $400. The evening readings and events are free and open to the public. 

About the Directors

Lori Jakiela directs the undergraduate writing program at Pitt-Greensburg and is the author of six books, including Belief Is Its Own Kind of Truth, Maybe, winner of the Saroyan Prize for International Writing from Stanford University.  Tonya Spritz Kapis is an acclaimed yogi, life coach, artist and owner of The Yoga Deck studio in Trafford, PA. Sylvia Catello is an author and food blogger at The Night Time Cook and will be catering meals throughout the retreat.

Trafford Gets Lit

Our October 28 reading features legendary concert promoter, songwriter, author, entrepreneur and Trafford-native Pat DeCesare, who will headline at The Yoga Deck in Trafford, Pa.

The reading, which will feature the theme “Leaps of Faith and Other Unexplainables,” begins at 7 p.m.

Suggested donation is $5, with proceeds benefiting ConPRmetidos in partnership with the Foundation for Puerto Rico, organizations raising funds to help those affected by Hurricane Maria.

Award-winning journalist Rege Behe and the author Lori Jakiela will be performing readings from their works as well.
